This is our 'why is the sky blue' section. We’re here to help, and we need you to help us make this site as good as it can be. Both for your sake and for ours. If your question is not answered here, then please get in touch at email@example.com
. We’d love to hear from you! It gets a bit lonely in the office sometimes ...
1. Why can’t I have the same generic product name as another designer, ie: white t–shirt?
Firstly, there is a technical reason: we cannot have two products with the same “code”. The code is automatically created from the title of the product (all lowercase, with “-“ sign instead of spaces). Secondly, it is strongly recommended that two products do not share the same title, both to avoid confusion and also for SEO reasons (Google might think the two products are the same). You should have creativity flowing from every pore, (otherwise you wouldn’t be here) so find a way around it!
2. Why can’t I select more than two categories for my product, for example if it’s unisex?
Once again, this is to do with our coding and with making sure every product has a unique code. This enables us to identify an item and use Google to easily pick it up. Please list the two items, with slightly different names, for example: Unisex Traveller Bag - Woman and Unisex Traveller Bag - Man. If you have different products like toys, which need to be in Little Sods and in Homeware – Children’s Section, and you just can’t get around it, let us know, and we’ll get on our developer’s case.
3. Why is there a 14 day cooling-off period?
We don't know, ask the government! Unlike the US and other countries, by European law, all consumers have the right to exchange an item within 14 days of buying it. To avoid confusing our accounts team, we’ve used this to our advantage and made this the deadline to pay our designers. Other companies could take as long as 60 days from the date of sale to pay you!
Paying you guys within 14 days didn’t go down too well when we were trying to find a bank to support our fabulous idea. But we stuck to our guns – it’s a priority for us to get your money to you as soon as possible ... so you can get on with making more items for us to sell! Keep in mind that although we make the payments on day 15, the banks may take some time to get it to you.
4. Why do I have to use your courier service?
Our business model relies heavily on the dependability of our courier service. Their e-mail confirming your product’s arrival, is critical, as once we receive it, we then trigger the 14 Day cooling-off period. And as soon as that passes, we pay you, which after all, is what it’s all about!
Because this so important to us, we have negotiated excellent fees for you – fees unlikely to be available to you, if you used a different courier. Doing it through the site is also super-convenient – you can drop it off or have it picked up at your door, instead of schlepping to the post office and standing in a queue. If, however, you have a courier you work with already, and they offer you better fares, please tell us who?! We’d love to ship with them too ... and kick our couriers to the sodding curb for not giving us the best industry prices!
5. Why is it necessary for you to approve my products, and any changes I want to make?
We understand that this could be annoying, but there are very good reasons. In the interests of all concerned, especially you, we’d like to keep standards as high as possible. For this reason, there needs to be an approval process before anything goes live on the site. We need to see if we like the work, and whether the designer concerned is serious about their craft. There is, of course, compliance with our T&C’s to be considered too.
As open-minded a bunch as we like to think we are at SODS, we’d hate for someone to upload an image of their ... well, I think you get the picture. If our plans change and we decide to branch out into pornography, we’ll be sure to let you know! Seriously though, in time, once we get to know you, you’ll get the all clear and it will be full steam ahead.
6. When are you launching SODS internationally, so I can take part?
We are currently developing our functionality, in order for international designers to be able launch their products on our site. Our developers, of course, are taking their own sweet time, despite our dire threats of physical violence and our demands that everything be finalised yesterday already!
Please sign-up for our newsletter, and we’ll keep you informed of any developments. In the meantime please e-mail us about your brand and designs at firstname.lastname@example.org
, so we can keep them on file.
